About granite floor care

Care matched to the material.

Granite is a hard, quartz- and feldspar-rich stone that shrugs off scratches and acid far better than marble. It is not indestructible, though — the mirror polish it leaves the factory with slowly wears flat under foot traffic, the surface picks up a greasy film in kitchens and lobbies, and cheaper or unsealed granite will absorb oil and water into dark blotches.

FloorCarePro brings granite back with diamond resin pads worked to a high grit, a deep degrease, and an impregnating sealer suited to the stone's density. Because granite is hard, the work is more about patience and the right pad progression than aggressive grinding.

Our granite services

Every step, done properly.

What goes wrong

Common granite floor problems.

Granite's hardness means it holds a polish for years, but also that restoring it needs finer, harder diamond abrasives than marble and more passes to lift the shine. Its porosity varies hugely by variety — some black granites are nearly sealed by nature, some light ones drink oil — so sealer choice matters.

Traffic-lane dullness where the factory polish has worn

Greasy or filmy build-up in kitchens, lobbies and dining areas

Dark oil and water stains on unsealed or under-sealed stone

Hard-water spotting and soap scum around wet areas

Chipped edges and open seams at joints

Professional granite floor restoration work

Why it needs a specialist

Not a job for consumer products.

Granite is too hard for the pads and compounds sold for home use to make any real difference — you need metal- and resin-bond diamonds and a machine with enough weight and speed. Done right it is a once-in-many-years job; done with the wrong tools it just wastes an afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions, answered.

How long does floor polishing take?

A typical 1,000–1,500 sq ft home takes one to two days. Floors needing full grinding, or larger commercial areas, take longer. We work room by room so the rest of the space stays usable.

Can a really badly damaged floor still be restored?

Usually yes. Unless the substrate has failed structurally or a wood wear layer is completely gone, grinding/sanding plus repair can bring almost any stone, terrazzo or timber floor back.
