Kota stone is a dense, hard-wearing limestone quarried in Rajasthan, prized for being cheap, tough and non-slip. It is everywhere in Indian homes, offices, staircases and back-of-house areas — and almost always laid rough or with a basic finish, then left to go grey and patchy.

What goes wrong
Common kota stone problems.
Kota is hard and slightly porous, with natural pin-holes and colour variation from green-grey to brown. It grinds and polishes well but needs its holes and joints grouted with a colour-matched slurry during the process, or the finish looks pitted.

A good Kota finish depends on grinding the whole floor to one level and slurry-filling as you go — skip that and you get a shiny-but-pitted surface that still catches dirt. It also needs the right grit endpoint: too high and Kota becomes slippery, too low and it stays dull.

How long does floor polishing take?
A typical 1,000–1,500 sq ft home takes one to two days. Floors needing full grinding, or larger commercial areas, take longer. We work room by room so the rest of the space stays usable.
Can a really badly damaged floor still be restored?
Usually yes. Unless the substrate has failed structurally or a wood wear layer is completely gone, grinding/sanding plus repair can bring almost any stone, terrazzo or timber floor back.
