It also cleans the grout lines, which is where most of the visible dirt on a tiled floor actually lives.
Mosaic tiles are usually a thin, hard cement-and-chip wear layer, so cleaning has to be firm enough to shift old wax and grime but not so aggressive it eats through the pattern. Marble-chip mosaic responds to the same diamond polishing as terrazzo; plain cement mosaic is mainly a deep-clean-and-reseal job.
